Turks and Caicos Fishing

Try your hand at deep sea fishing Turks and Caicos style, by taking part in a Grand Turk fishing excursion run by one of the local Grand Turk fishing charters.  Bohio resort, on the island paradise of Grand Turk is ideally placed for access to the best Turks and Caicos fishing grounds, with the picturesque sandy beaches and coral reefs soon giving way to the plunging wall of the Columbus passage, a deep water channel running between the Turks islands and the Caicos islands.

Within minutes, you’ll be fishing Turks and Caicos’ most bountiful waters for yellowfin tuna, marlin, mahi-mahi, jacks, wahoo and more. It’s challenging sport for experts, but in the hands of our local Grand Turk fishing gurus even complete novices at the sport shouldn’t come home empty handed.

These guys have all the permits, licenses and local knowledge to keep you in safe and sporting waters, without harming the local ecology of the reefs in the marine reserves – a vital balance to make sure the Grand Turk diving remains top quality too.

As you return from your expedition, cold drinks in hand, the sun dropping below the horizon, fishing Turks and Caicos style wouldn’t be complete without spotting a pod of dolphins, or during the winter, even a humpback whale. Then a Grand Turk tradition – as the sun disappears below the horizon, look out for the Green Flash – a spectral illusion, best seen over sand or water. If the Bohio staff spot it, it’ll be Green Flash cocktails on the house as you return.

Each year there’s a Grand Turk fishing competition, the latest being hosted by Bohio resort at Pillory beach. This year the Grand Turk Heineken Game Fishing Tournament will be in July – come and support Bohio’s winning team.  When the boats gather back at the shore, there’s a beach BBQ, live music and plenty of chance to discuss the ones that got away.
One of the most rewarding Turks and Caicos fishing experiences is to enjoy your fresh catch, freshly cooked. And once a week, Bohio hosts our popular “Pit Party”, a lively beach BBQ with live bands and dancing – a real hit with the locals too. Look out for our local dive masters and Grand Turk fishing experts who can often be spotted singing or playing in a band. The day’s fresh catch is served up, along with other treats, such as ribs, lobster in season and juicy steaks.
