The Turks and Caicos Islands are surrounded by one of the most extensive coral reef systems in the world. It is 65 miles across (105 kilometers) and 200 miles long (322 kilometers) so as you can imagine, viewing this spectacular wonder of nature by day is incredible. However, after nightfall the reef transforms into another world altogether. Under water exploration during the day is special, but night-time diving off the Turks and Caicos will leave you speechless.
A night dive on the world famous wall — which drops from 25 feet (8 meters) to 7000 feet (2130 meters) in a heartbeat, and is located literally a stone’s throw away from Bohio Dive Resort on Pillory Beach — is something you will never forget. Due to bioluminescence, the colours of the day become the phosphorescent illumination of the night. Grand Turk scuba diving by night is like a journey through a kaleidoscope.
Divers are guaranteed to see plenty of night life with sleepy turtles (Cheloniodea), octopus (Octopoda), scaly tail mantis shrimp (Lysiosquilla scabricauda), squid (Teuthida), and red heart urchin (Meoma ventricosa), and spiny lobster to name but a few either hunting or resting as the moon illuminates the water.
The turquoise hues of the shallow bank interrupted by the deep ocean azure, together with the eggshell white beaches of Grand Turk are something special – but the colours visible by night are equal if not more spectacular. You will feel like you are on another planet.
Our dive master will help you chose the best sites to dive at night, describing in detail the area before giving guests a special guided tour of the underwater paradise that surrounds Grand Turk.
Night dives cost US$75 and divers can either explore on their own (in buddy pairs) or alongside one of our fully trained, friendly, and professional staff. Check out our dive page for more information: http://www.bohioresort.com/dive-rates.html
