It’s hard to believe that slavery was still around as recently as under 200 years ago. It’s a dark part of our history – of world history – but it is also one we should remember and acknowledge, which is why each year we celebrate Emancipation Day.
It may surprise or pain you to learn this, but slavery is still alive and well throughout other parts of the world. There are actually more slaves today than there have ever been at any point in history, with 29.8 million people living in modern slavery today.
We have come so far, and yet we still have so much further to go. Be thankful for the progress we have made, but do not forget that there is more still yet to come.
